Craftsmen Park was formed in 1933 as a 501-c3 non-profit organization sponsored by members of the Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio residing in Summit County. Its purpose was to provide a facility to be used for camps for children, teaching them the moral and ethical skills needed to become good citizens and productive members of society.

In 1948, Craftsmen Park purchased the property it now occupies on the shores of Rex Lake. Comprising 68 acres, this property gave the Masonic Fraternity the flexibility to expand and to offer the use of its amenities to other organizations interested in the welfare of our youth. Today this includes the Boy Scouts of America, many school band camps, church groups, Rotary International, Camp Quality, Capstone Masonic Youth Camp and the Masonic Model Student Assistance Program, as well as the Masonic Boys and Girls Camps.

Below is an overview of the some of the camps that are held at Craftsmen Park:

Camp quality is a weeklong camping experience and year round support system for children with cancer, and their families. Each Child is assigned a companion who provides support and encouragement during the week. They spend twenty-four hours a day together, which usually results in friendships that last long after the camp has ended. Camp Quality is an all volunteer, non-profit organization. There is never a cost to the capers or their families. Camp Quality depends totally on the generosity of individuals, businesses, organizations and foundations acting out of concern for these children and their families.

The Masonic Model Student Assistance Program is a program funded in its entirety by The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio and a yearly grant from the Ohio Department of Education. This program brings together school administrators, faculty, and support staff for the specific purpose of being taught how to identify "at risk" youth. By definition, "at risk" youth are those youth who are neglected or abused, those who may be at risk of being suicidal, and those who may be under the influence of illegal drugs. These educators are taught how to intercede and help direct these youth onto more constructive paths so they may succeed in life.

The Capstone Masonic Youth Camp is an offshoot of The Masonic Model program. This camp takes disadvantaged youth and pairs them with mentors of their own age. The youth and their mentors are then teamed and presented with situational challenges that they must work together to overcome. The idea is to build self worth, teach leadership abilities and provide incentive for them to work hard, excel, and see the endless possibilities that exist for them.

Funding to support Craftsmen Park comes primarily from the generosity of the Masonic Fraternity of Summit County and individual private donations. These funds are primarily used to provide for the operation and maintenance of the park and it facilities. Additional funds are raise through fundraisers like our Swiss Steak Dinners and Pancake Breakfasts, and facility rentals for weddings and family outings. Our work force is primarily made up of volunteers. The continual renovation and improvement of our facilities have been done through, generously donated time, and special donations for specific improvements.

Our continued goal is to provide a facility where organizations such as Camp Quality, Capstone, the Masonic Model Program, Rotary, and others can come and provide a helping hand to our youth. With the continued support of the Masonic Fraternity and the generosity of others Craftsmen Park will continue to make is facilities available to those organizations dedicated to the education and welfare of our most valuable asset, our youth.
